In collaboration with the provinces of Noord-Brabant and Gelderland, BAM is constructing two trial sections with an asphalt surface course that is up to 93% recycled material; this more than triples the percentage in current practice. The innovative mixture is produced at a temperature of approx. 105˚C. Besides the high reuse value, this has the added benefit of energy and CO2 reductions of some 30%. The surface courses in both trial sections will consist of two layers of ZOAB (porous asphalt concrete), achieving a noise reduction of 7dB. The trial sections are the highly promising, final piece of the European LE2AP demonstration project that BAM has been working on for more than three years.

After four years of measuring, fitting, refurbishing and building, the three Amsterdam stabling yards are fully in operation again. There is now a lot more room for parking, washing, maintaining and repairing the metro train units. From the very first start, BAM's Janthijs de Haan (in the photo below) was there, at the yards located on Gaasperplas, Isolatorweg and Amstel. What does he think of the final result and how does he look back on the working process?

It will then take one year to bore two tunnel tubes that together will form the Victory Boogie Woogie tunnel.

Arjen de Graaf: ‘I became the Programme Manager for ‘Projects in control’ in May. ‘The goal of this programme is to ensure that at BAM Infra our projects are 'in control', i.e. that the results comply with the frameworks and preconditions that have been defined for the project. And that the behaviour of (key) players supports this’. This is quite a lengthy explanation of how we carefully consider whether we will, and/or can, take on a project, including its successful implementation and maintenance. Basically, it is about whether we achieve our previously established goals together. The goal must be clear (i.e. what are we trying to achieve?) and the road to get there requires process frameworks and high-class people who really do it together and make good on our ambition. It is important that we learn together (and record what we have learnt), use each other's knowledge, and start working even more transparently. This calls for an active attitude and realising that, for example, admitting when there is something that you do not know is not a sign of weakness but a strength.

25 July 2016

Good performance ratings and safety scores have recently enabled BAM Infra Rail to win lots of small-scale projects. In order to be able to achieve these projects in good time and cost-efficiently, some improvements will have to be made to our preparations for these works. BAM Infra Rail is therefore introducing a Cost Leadership programme to bundle several small-scale projects into one major project.
