We all want to live longer. But preferably as healthy, smooth and trim as possible. The same goes for a motorway. A dab of rejuvenation cream every now and then helps to keep the asphalt fit. But did you know that we also use diamonds to keep a road in shape? Jan-Dirk Sloos, ‘asphalt doctor’ and works manager at BAM Infra Asfalt, told us how this was recently done while carrying out maintenance on the A59. And how proud he is of this project. He even had a drone fly over it. ‘I've become a serious asphalt addict.’

After an extensive funneling phase, Rijkswaterstaat selected De Nieuwe Zestien (i.e. Dutch for The New Sixteen) consortium of BAM, Boskalis and VolkerWessels as one of the three potential candidates for the tender for the A16 Rotterdam project. The project comprises the construction and maintenance of a new motorway between the A13 near Rotterdam The Hague Airport and the A16/A20 at the Terbregseplein junction. Do you know this area because you live there, go there for recreational purposes, or are connected with it in some other way? Then please share your knowledge and ideas with us: you can make a valuable contribution!

It's never too early to start working safely. In order to prevent unsafe situations while working, it is important that attention is paid to safety even in the preparatory phase. As a safety walk on the actual building site gives a very good view of the safety aspects regarding the work activities, it should be undertaken as early as possible. But how can you do a safety walk if the work in the field has not started yet? Robert ten Bras, integral project leader, explains how his team do this at the N18 Varsseveld-Lichtenvoorde project.

A delicate operation
It is quite something: constructing an 8-kilometre tramway route - from Utrecht Central Station to the de Uithof P+R. Pedestrians, cyclists, cars and public transport will still have to be able to pass through the area while the work is ongoing. And that is not all: the grounds of the Universitair Medisch Centrum Utrecht (UMC Utrecht) are dissected by the Uithoflijn tramway, whilst operations, in all the meanings of this term, should be able to continue unabated.
