BAM made a good impression in London on 18 and 19 October, during the Digital Construction Week where we presented some extraordinary digital projects, such as the first 3D-printed concrete bicycle bridge in Gemert and the 18-km long Fehmarnbelt tunnel that connects Germany with Denmark. In London, Menno de Jonge, Director of Digital Construction, Koninklijke BAM Group and Sreelatha Chunduri, Digital Construction Specialist of BAM Infraconsult, gave presentations about such topics as 3D printing and these two projects. Together with Sreelatha, we can look back on a successful event.

‘During my lessons, I see how enthusiastically children respond and that's what I like. Children suddenly know something and feel involved. It's already happened that a child could tell his dad where to close the main water valve in the meter cabinet.’

At the 3D concrete printing symposium, the province of Noord-Brabant showed fellow-clients how it had challenged the market to come up with innovative solutions, the outcome of which were the 3D-printed bicycle bridge and a roundabout that was pushed into place.

The Driebergen-Zeist railway station was the fictitious setting for this roleplay.

The festive opening of the world's first 3D-printed concrete bicycle bridge on Tuesday 17 October brought lots of interested parties to Gemert. At the same time, the first roundabout ever to be pushed into place was moved into its final position some 600 metres from the site of the bridge. And, to add to the list of firsts, the people who had come to attend these events also walked across the longest clamped composite bridge in the world. These firsts also drew the media's attention.

‘I love it that the water rescue team is fully embedded in our society. I’ve had to rescue people on two occasions. That was a clear reminder of why I do this work.’

Sustainability and smooth circulation, that is what the reconstruction of the Hanzeweg road in Deventer is all about. BAM Infra managed to win the tender through a comprehensive package of sustainability measures. ‘Our price was third lowest, but our high score for Economically Most Advantageous Tender meant a fictitious discount of EUR 1.4 million on a contracting sum of well over EUR 3.8 million. More than enough to come first,’ said Bas Goverde, tender manager for BAM Infra Regionaal.

Several BAM Infra colleagues watched proudly last Saturday morning as a low-loader delivered a brand-new tram to the tram stop near the Wilhelmina Kinderziekenhuis children's hospital. The lettering on the side of the tram read ‘Testtram’. And that is what this tram car is intended for: testing, testing and more testing.

‘When I was a little kid, I was already hugely fascinated by this profession. So when I got a neighbour who was working for the fire service, it didn't take me long to register as well.’
This week, we are talking to Marc Bartelink, who in his spare time assists the Twente Safety Region as a part-time firefighter for the fire station in the centre of Hengelo.

Fact: the Rotterdamsebaan will have the most sustainable tunnel in Europe. Marco Zeeman, Network Development Director at Rijkswaterstaat, and a local resident and neighbour of this project, wanted to know more about this so he paid a working visit to the project together with representatives of Rijkswaterstaat and Shell. ‘As a local resident, I had not heard about the historic value and the local finds from the Roman era. And that just below the surface. It's great to know this now.’

Together with our IT partner ICT Group, BAM Infra will be at the Big Data Expo which is being held in the Jaarbeurs in Utrecht on 20 and 21 September. We will have a great spot on the Microsoft stand. BAM Infra at a Big Data Expo? Isn't that a bit weird? No, it's not. Digitisation is a key aspect for BAM. For example, digitisation forms the basis of Asset Management and we work with some serious partners for this.

Since October 2016, many employees have invested their energy in setting up a new asphalt chain process. We scrutinised the entire existing asphalt chain process. We then made the existing processes more uniform and improved or fine-tuned them. And the arrival of a national asphalt organisation was the finishing touch. As of that moment, there was one uniform asphalt chain process for the Regionaal and BAM Infra Multidisciplinaire Contracten business units, with clear agreements as to the allocation of responsibilities
