Since the opening of the city bridge, ‘De Oversteek’, in November 2013, the west side of Nijmegen has experienced much heavier traffic with regular tailbacks. With the reconstruction of Poort Neerbosch, the intersection of Neerbosscheweg – IJpenbroekweg – Hogelandseweg, the municipality plans to improve access to the city.

The provincial road, N227, is a north-south link that cuts right across the Utrechtse Heuvelrug (chain of hills). It lies in the so-called ecological main structure, a coherent network of nature reserves in the Netherlands. By linking together these nature reserves, which form part of the ecological main structure, it is easier for plants and animals to disperse. This also helps to make nature more resistant to negative environmental effects, such as drought.

I am pleased to announce that we had a very good first quarter, with good scores on all points in the Back in shape-programme. We reduced our costs considerably and attracted a greater volume of work. We are also gaining increasingly better control of our projects. Our order book has grown, which means that we continued to function well during the rebuilding. We also booked good results in terms of safety. We had an IF score of 2, while our target was 4.8. We are far less passive. We try to prevent unsafe situations and resulting accidents proactively. When something happens, we take action immediately. This is a positive development!
